This statue of Shakyamuni Buddha is based on a carving of a Burmese Buddha in the Mandalay style. It depicts the Buddha as he calls upon the earth itself to witness his Awakening. The hand gesture of this statue is called the 'earth witness mudra'. Mudras are symbolic hand gestures that appear in yoga, art, traditional dances and ceremonies, and meditation practices. Hand cast of design resin with rust-like patina that becomes more beautiful as it weathers.
